Kia (and Hyundai) are now on their way to start rivaling premium cars, after one of the most visible increases in quality and engineering ever seen in the industry. The ascent from bargain-basement motoring to premium-rivaling motors has mainly been aided by the fact that most of the new Kia (and Hyundai) models are designed in Germany and built in Slovakia.
The proof that their strategy paid off? Well, if you live in Europe, just take a look outside your window and you are bound to see any number of excellent new Kia models, as their popularity has been unexpectedly high. Now, the manufacturer is announcing a 10% increase in their production numbers, when compared to last year’s figures. During the first months of 2012, the Zilina factory has managed to churn out an impressive 149,000 vehicles. One of the ways in which this was achieved, was through the introduction of a third shift, to produce the new generation Cee’d, Sportage and Venga.

Of the 149,000 total number, around 80,000 cars were Cee’d models, representing an increase in production by 17%, as of last year. Of course, some of the company’s leaders were at the spot to give statements, and E.H. Lee, President and CEO of Kia Motors Slovakia said "I am glad, that thanks to our employees’ hard work, we were able to set a new production record of 149,000 cars during the first six months of 2012 [. . .] I believe we are set to meet our plans to produce more than 285,000 Kia vehicles this year for our European and Russian customers.
