Kia has just rolled out the second teaser showing the Ray concept that will be officially displayed at the Chicago Motor Show next week. Just as we told you some time ago, the car will come in the form of a plug-in hybrid that will boast several innovations, including a panoramic glass roof plus LED taillights, probably to minimize electricity use.
Today's new teaser reveals a futuristic design for the front fascia, with extended headlights and what seem to be fog beams integrated into the front bumper. Obviously, only a little can be seen in the photo but, taking into account that most concepts tend to adopt a futuristic design, a lot of these features will most likely miss the production model.
Obviously, there are no technical details available at this time, but the Ray could be powered by the same powertrain available on the Blue-Will concept belonging to Kia's parent company, Hyundai. The Blue-Will relied on an all-aluminum gasoline direct injection 1.6l engine, mated onto a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and a 100kw electric motor. The vehicle also draws power from the panoramic roof's integrated sensitized solar cells. The battery pack is fitted, together with the fuel tank, under the rear seats to maximize luggage space.
Hyundai's Blue-Will was able to cover a distance of 38 miles (60 km) in electric mode alone.
The concept is developed by Kia Design Center America and could go into production in the upcoming years, depending on the feedback the manufacturer receives following the public display at Chicago.
