Hidden at the bottom of the press release about the new Cee’d Sportwagon, Kia has finally revealed when it’s going to start making the three-door version.
Production of the new Pro_Cee’d will start at their Zilina plant in Slovakia in the early part of 2013. The car will be based on the same platform as the regular Cee’d and the i30 from Hyundai.
However, the body style promises to be a bit different. As you can see from this official rendering released back in March, he wheel arches are beefier than on a regular hatch and the greenhouse tapers down towards the rear of the car.
Much like the Opel Astra GTC, the roof line slopes towards the rear of the car. But the front end is identical to the hatchback.
Engine options for the Pro_Cee’d will surely include both petrol and diesel units displacing 1.4 and 1.6 liters. There’s also talk of a hot version, though it’s yet unclear what direction this will take.
Rumor has it a 1.6-liter turbo GDI will be used, offering 200 horsepower, but chances are the European market will only get about 180 hp.
