Kia wants to be taken more seriously as a performance brand, and now, with the Cee’d and Procee’d GT warm hatches, they are beginning to make their intentions clear. However, their plans don`t end there, and if their current GT-badged models achieve success, the Korean brand will expand the lineup with new and possibly hotter models.
These plans include a hot diesel variant of the two cars, as well as more powerful petrol-powered versions. According to a Kia UK spokesman, “The UK will get some very distinctive trim and equipment levels with the launch of the GT next year and if they are successful we will offer this look as a GT ‘kit’ for other models [. . .] We’re also considering a diesel version and we’ve been approached by the US about a tuned-up version of the Forte.

Another benefit of the GT sub-brand becoming successful would be the inclusion of its ‘go-faster’ bolt-on bits becoming available on lesser models, as sporty optionals. These include special paint finishes and interior upholstery, Recaro bucket seats and sportier body panels and spoilers, to name but a few. This is a very German way of going about doing things, but since Kia’s European division is based in Frankfurt, it is somewhat understandable.
