Last week Kia released a teaser that previews the carmaker’s first step into the world of hot hatches, showing us a sketch of the upcoming pro_cee’d GT. The company is now givins more on this topic, as it has just announced the performance specs for the upcoming cee’d and pro_cee’d GT.
The how hatches will use a 1.6-liter GDI engine that will feature direct injection, a twin-scroll turbo, as well as strengthened internals - the upgraded parts will be there to sustain a 51 percent power increase and a 61 percent torque boost. Thus, the unit will deliver 204 hp and a peak torque of 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) and will work with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Kia tells us that the vehicles will deal with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 7.9 seconds, a time that’s not bad as an absolute value, but will make the two one of the slowest hot hatches on the market. The carmaker hasn’t released the exact details about the chassis modifications, but promises us that the cars will come with “"exceptional dynamic characteristics."

You’ll recognize the GT models thanks to new front and rear fascias, modified headlights, as well as a new front grille and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. As for the interior, this will offer goodies like Recaro seats, custom trimming and metallic pedals.

The five-door Kia cee’d GT and the three-door Kia pro_cee’d GT are scheduled to hit the market in mid-2013.
