Kia announced that it will introduce a sporty R package for the Forte Koup on the Canadian market.
The new kit will be available as a set of dealer-installed accessories and it will be offered for the SX and EX models. The tech part of the pack includes a high performance air filter, a sports exhaust system and an upgraded suspension system that uses stiffer springs. This should make the car more responsive in the corners and allow the engine to “breathe” better, but, unfortunately, it won’t make a significant overall dynamics difference.
In terms of styling, the pack comes with front bumper add-ons, new side skirts and a rear spoiler. The Kia Forte Coup R receives 18 inch Europa rims and Yokohama S-Drive tires. These are aimed at improving both the car's handling and its exterior appearance.
The R kit is scheduled to enter the Canadian dealers’s offer by May. The new package will also be offered as a retrofit option, so that customers who already drive a Forte Koup can upgrade their vehicle.
The Kia Forte Koup offers a choice of two petrol engines. The first one is a 2.0 liter unit that produces 156 hp at 6,200 rpm and 144 lb-ft of torque at 4,300 Nm, while returning a fuel consumption of 30 mpg (for the combined cycle). The current top of the range powerplant is a 2.4 liter unit that develops 173 hp at 6,000 rpm and 168 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, while returning a fuel consumption of 27 mpg for the combined cycle.
