Kia Motors Grand-Am Adventure Continues in Homestead

Following a top-20 finish in Kia Motors’ first-ever auto race in the US at Daytona, the carmaker and Kinetic Motorsports continue to hope the inaugural season will prove to be as exciting as expected and are getting ready for the start of the second race, at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“While we were pleased to reach the track and the initial result in Daytona, we know there is a lot more potential in the Kia Forte Koups and we’ve already seen significant performance improvements since the first race,” Nic Jonsson, driver of the No. 10 car said in a release.

"Despite the lack of racing experience in Kia’s DNA, there is no question that we are headed in the right direction with the Forte Koup development program and we are confident we will be faster at Homestead and as the season progresses.”

Kia fields two Forte Koup cars in the 2010 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series, the No. 10 and No. 12, sponsored by Infinity Audio Systems. The two race in the Street Tuner (ST) class and are driven by Andy Lally/Nic Jonsson (No. 10) and Trevor Hopwood and Adam Burrows.

Both cars are powered by a 2.4l inline four-cylinder engine and come in two-door, front-wheel-drive configurations. According to Kia, getting the two ready for the 2010 season required 6 months of tweaking and testing.

During the Daytona debut, Trevor Hopwood and Adam Burrows finished 19th after starting in the 31st position while Nic Jonsson and Andy Lally provided an in-cockpit view of the race from its roof-mounted and in-car SPEED TV cameras.
