A stronger, perhaps more competitive team is about to get born in the Nationwide Series, after last night Kevin Harvick, Inc. (KHI) announced the signing of a partnership with Richard Childress Racing (RCR), which will come into effect starting the 2011 season.
The partnership will see KHI taking over the Nationwide Series entries run by RCR, while at the same time they will continue to use Earnhardt-Childress Racing supplied engines in Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series. The RCR cars will be running under KHI banners next season.
"This alliance will help both of our race teams," Kevin Harvick, co-owner of KHI was quoted as saying by NASCAR. "Richard and I have discussed this opportunity for a while and we thought, at this point, both programs would really benefit from this new structure since the Nationwide new cars will be so similar to our Cup cars."
RCR on the other hand will continue to work in the Truck Series with Austin Dillon and an yet undetermined team. Two full-time team will be fielded in this series, but will no longer have any independent entries in the Nationwide series.
"Kevin and I are excited about the partnership between RCR and KHI next year," said Richard Childress, RCR CEO. "We have talked about having a joint endeavor for several years and, looking at 2011, the timing couldn't be more right. With RCR fielding at least two Truck Series teams next year, the trade-off is for us to help KHI with its Nationwide efforts. It's a positive step for both companies."
