As the 2010 NASCAR season is nearing its completion, all the parties involved are reviewing their strategies for the next season. In the case of sponsors, that means letting go some of the contracts or extending other.
DuPont, one of the most constant presences in the NASCAR series, announced yesterday it will be extending the sponsorship agreement with Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon with an extra three years.
"We are proud to continue our relationship with Jeff, Hendrick Motorsports and the No. 24 car. This continues to be a unique opportunity to showcase DuPont innovations," said Cynthia Green, DuPont chief marketing officer.
The agreement marks the continuation of a sponsorship deal which dates back to 1992. As a result of the new deal, DuPont, which will remain primary sponsor of the No. 24 Chevrolet team, will be fielding their colors on the Hendrick car in 14 races next season.
“I can't remember what it was like to race without DuPont on board," said Jeff Gordon. "We've had such an incredible ride together, and I've learned so much about how DuPont applies science and innovation to make a positive difference in the world. It means a lot to me to keep it going for at least another three seasons.”
DuPont, who is now entering its 19th season as the sponsors for the team, will be sharing the No. 24 with AARP and AARP Foundation, which signed a similar agreement earlier this week. Gordon will become spokesperson of the program that aims to help older Americans in their fight against hunger.
