Katie Melua European Tour Backed by Opel

Having seen what the association of the brand's image with a star can do for the sales numbers (remember the Seat-Shakira tie-up), German auto maker Opel is trying to tap into the current music trends by partnering with singer Katie Melua for her European tour.

Called “The House,“ the tour will take the singer, and Opel along with her, through no less than 51 European cities, starting March 9, in Dresden and ending in Freiburg on June 21.

“Katie Melua is an exceptional artist. She fits to our brand and gives it a face. We offer her fans real added value with our special activities at her concerts,” said Alain Visser, Opel vice president Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. “We stand for values like innovation, dynamics, environmental awareness and social responsibility – values that Katie Melua represents very credibly and authentically.”

Melua, who is a brand ambassador for Opel, will try and promote the German brand in general and the soon-to-be-launched Ampera plug-in hybrid. On its end, Opel will send the Ampera to accompany Melua on her tour. As a treat for the fans of both Opel and Melua, the German auto maker will let anyone interested download, for free, the “Walk Lightly On The World” song, starting tomorrow, at the following link.

“I like the way Opel addresses topics like environmental protection and sustainability and I feel very comfortable with the partnership; it’s a great fit. I already had the chance to drive the series production version of the Ampera, and I was really impressed with it,”
