A very unlucky Just Eat delivery driver / biker had the worst run of his career as such, when a gang of 10 juveniles jumped him and robbed him of his bike and phone. He even got the whole thing on camera, though it won’t help him much now.
It happened over the weekend in Moston, north Manchester, UK, and he’s going public with the recording in a bid to show people that being a delivery boy can be a dangerous job. His certainly was on that day, as he tells the Daily Mail in an interview.
The Just Eat biker had just delivered a KFC order when he noticed a group of youths with hooded faces approaching. Though he knew something was wrong, he couldn’t get out of there fast enough: one juvenile grabbed his bike and then, as he tried to pedal away, more joined to punch and kick him in the back and ankles.
Eventually, he got off the bike and tried to ran after the thieves. They’d taken his bike and his phone, and he wanted both back. However, he stopped short of chasing after them when he realized he didn’t know where he was running to.
“I stopped and realized that if I continued chasing after them and went towards the alleyway, then they might have jumped me,” the biker says. “I was thinking of my family, my life is more important than my phone.”
The lesson he learned is that he should have followed his gut with this one, because he knew right away he hadstepped pedaled into a trap.
“When I first arrived there at the address, it was like a ghost town. In my gut I felt I shouldn't have delivered it. I don't know why I carried on delivering it,” he says. He adds that the robbery has left him “totally shaken up” since he’s never been in a situation like that before.
If he’s lucky, he will never be in one again.
