Just four days before his 65th birthday, Daimler's downright legendary Dr. Joachim Schmidt will retire from his function of Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing and part of the management team at Mercedes-Benz Cars, deciding to hand over his responsibilities to younger blood.
The first odd bit about this information is that his contract with Daimler AG was extended until 09/30/2015 just last year, so it only makes us wonder what was the real reason for the step down and who was really behind it.
The second oddity comes from whom the Daimler Board of Management has named as his replacement, none other than the current head of AMG, Ola Källenius. The new AMG Chairman of the Board will probably be announced in the following days, and we're pretty much dead curious.

Dr. Schmidt will remain available until the end of the year to support his successor in settling into his new role and to obviously offer any advice and/or assistance with the new job.
