Jermain Defoe Pulled Over on Burglary Suspicion

England and Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe was pulled over a few days ago by the Essex police as he was driving his black £150,000 Ferrari, following the Spurs’ 2-1 win over Liverpool. The Spurs star was stopped as part of a police action that aimed to solve a series of burglaries in which valuable cars had been taken.

However, Defoe was allowed to drive away after his identity was checked and confirmed, the Daily Mail reported.

The incident happened three days after Defoe, 26, said he would sue the police for harassment over his ‘wrongful’ arrest on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

Nick Freeman, who is Defoe’s solicitor said that “At best, this is an embarrassing cock-up. At worst, it smacks of something far more sinister which can only add weight to growing concerns that they are being vindictive and my client is being harassed.”

“Police in the Epping Forest area have been running an operation tackling domestic burglary in affluent areas and the theft of high-value cars. As part of that officers stopped a black Ferrari. They satisfied themselves all was in order with car and driver,”
said a police spokesman to the aforementioned source.

The 27-year-old footballer was banned from driving after a speeding conviction in early July, but the ban was suspended pending appeal. On July 17, the Tottenham Hotspur player was pulled over while driving a Range Rover and held for five hours under the suspicion of driving while disqualified.

Mr Freeman, who is known as Mr Loophole for his ability to help high profile individuals be cleared of driving convictions, said racism would be a 'strong element' of their claim and that Defoe would donate any proceeds from winning the lawsuit to an anti-racism charity.
