Ladies and gents deprived of their weekly dose of Top Gear, the wait is almost over. The BBC has confirmed that Jeremy Clarkson recorded the voiceover for the last Top Gear episode earlier this month.
To boot, a glossy celebrity gossip mag tweeted “#TopGear's last ever episode, with @MrJamesMay, @JeremyClarkson & @RichardHammond, has been edited. It will air on @BBCTwo, very soon.” I know what you're thinking: so will it air by the end of June?
Searching through the TV listings, BBC2’s schedule for June 28th is currently unavailable. That leaves room for speculation, as does the evidenceless tweet posted by Celebrity Secrets. An unofficial James May Facebook page with 1.5 million fans posted “Back soon on a TV near you”, but that’s still not solid enough.
What is solid though is the BBC confirming to the British media that Jeremy Clarkson recorded the voiceover for the final Top Gear episode. The material will go with unseen footage filmed for the automotive show before Clarkson was axed following the Oisin Tymon drunken punch-up.
A BBC spokeswoman declared: “He has done the voiceover for Top Gear. He came into the BBC the week before last. He didn’t get paid to do it. Even though this happened after his contract was not renewed, it falls under his old contract. He is not banned from appearing on the BBC.” That’s the solid proof we were looking for!
If you don’t mind any spoilers getting you pumped up ahead of the still undisclosed air date, there’s a lot to look forward to from Top Gear Series 22 Episode 8. Starting with a 30-second trailer for the one-hour plus-long special episode, there’s also an extended trailer with lots of mud, old crossovers and caravan racing.
UPDATE: it's official. The last Top Gear episode with Jeremy Clarkon as a presenter will air on June 28th. The final episode will be a 75-minute special and will conclude Top Gear Series 22.
UPDATE 2: New Top Gear presenter confirmed.
