Just as the BBC confirmed that the final episode of Top Gear Series 22 will be a 75-minute special that will air on June 28th, here's a bombshell: Chris Evans will lead the all-new Top Gear lineup in 2016.
You can stop rubbing your eyes now because this is an official announcement from BBC headquarters. The great Beeb tells that Chris Evans of TFI Friday and FM radio fame has signed a 3-year deal to be the leading presenter of a new Top Gear team.
Yes, boys and girls, Jeremy Clarkson isn't making a surprise comeback anytime soon. "I'm thrilled, Top Gear is my favourite programme of all time. Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless. When in fact, of course, it's anything but and that's the genius of Top Gear's global success," said an enthusiastic Evans. "I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward," adds Chris.
BBC 4 controller Kim Shillinglaw is "delighted that Chris will be presenting the next series of Top Gear," and it's no wonder why. He's a petrolhead, he likes to collect million-dollar Ferrari exotica from the 1960s onwards and his "cheeky unpredictability is the perfect choice to take our much-loved show into the future."
Tim Davie, CEO of BBC Worldwide, declared: "It‘s fantastic news for Top Gear fans around the world that such a brilliant broadcaster as Chris will be the figurehead for the brand across the globe."
And on that bombshell, Top Gear Series 23 will return in "early 2016."

First tweet as new Top Gear host. I would like to say Jeremy, Richard & James are the greatest. And NO I'm not leaving the R2 Breakfast Show

Well: best of luck to @achrisevans and the future of Top Gear (b. 1977). That's a ballsy call, frankly, and to be admired.
