Jenson Button Visits His Former Schools in Frome

Jenson Button's vacation off racing between the Chinese Grand Prix and the race in Barcelona gave the reigning Formula One champion a chance to take a walk down memory lane and visit his former schools in Frome, UK (his birthplace). The McLaren Mercedes driver attended the courses of three schools while in Frome, so he decided to pay them a visit and talk to the students.

Vallis First School, Selwood Middle School and the Frome Community College were the schools visited by Button. The 30-year old did not travel back to Frome only as a former student or a reigning F1 champion, but also as an ambassador of Motor Sports Association's 'Go Motorsport' initiative.

Consequently, he used this opportunity to talk to the students and answer to their questions regarding the motor racing world, as the 'Go Motorsport' programme aims to initiate people in all areas of motorsport from a younger age.

From a personal point of view, it was fantastic for me to go back to the three schools I went to when growing up in Frome. Looking at the bigger picture, though, it's great that Go Motorsport is going into schools all around the country showing students of all ages what motorsport has to offer whether as a career or pastime,” said Button.

I was lucky that my father bought me a kart when I was eight years old but, for others, it's not so easy to get started. That's why I'm delighted to be supporting this initiative and happy to help whenever my diary allows,” added the current leader of the F1 championship.

We are delighted that Jenson has found time to support this campaign in his home town. Both he and Lewis [Hamilton] are great role models and their fantastic achievements are inspiring more and more youngsters to get involved in motorsport,” added MSA's CEO Colin Hilton.
