Button Meets British Fans to Celebrate F1 Title

After spending the night after his title-clinching Brazilian Grand Prix all alone in his hotel room, reflecting on his incredible performance this season, Jenson Button finally met his British fans back home, during a promotional event for Virgin Media.

The 29-year old Brit is currently experiencing the most intense feelings in his Formula One career, as he became world champion with one race to go in the season. While sitting in front of a Mercedes E63 AMG, the Brawn GP driver showed the British fans once again who is the true champion of Formula One, after flashing the number one sign with his finger.

The event was held during the course of yesterday in Kent, at the Bluewater shopping centre in Greenhithe. Following the media event, Button was scheduled to head back home to Frome, Somerset and spend some quality time with his family. In the meantime, as promised by the mayor of his hometown, the council of Frome will decide how it will reward Button for the immense publicity he brought to the town by becoming F1 champion.

Talking to the reporters about the feelings he had when finally clinching the world title, Button revealed that his performance in Brazil – when his 5th place gave him enough of a point lead in the standings to become champion with one race to go – marked the coming true of a 21-year old dream.

This is what I wanted to achieve in my career. I wanted to become a World Champion in Formula One and 21 years I have spent in racing with that goal in mind. I have been able to achieve that,” said Button.

In addition, the British driver insisted that he won't dwell on his success for too long, as he plans to further continue his success in the sport from 2010 onwards.
