The 1999 Pepsi Chevrolet Monte Carlo in which Jeff Gordon and Ray Evernham recorded their last victory as a driver-crew chief pairing went under the hammer this weekend. No. 24 Pepsi was sold for a stunning price, and the NASCAR champ couldn’t be more pleased about the way the auction turned out since all the proceeds will go to charity.
The car was part of the stunning car collection that went under the hammer this weekend at Barrett-Jackson auction house and sold for $500,000 Friday night. The benefits are going straight to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, which supports childhood cancer research.

According to Motor Racing Network, both Gordon and Evernham were there to watch the iconic car go across the auction block. For those of you who couldn’t attend the event, it would seem there is still a chance to see it.

Evernham, who currently hosts “AmeriCarna” on Velocity, was also part of the Barrett-Jackson broadcast with the auction moving over to the channel this week. Fans will be able to see how the car was restored and how the biding went on.

Pepsi became Gordon’s long-term sponsor back in 1997 and they still are. Every year Gordon has driven a car with the Pepsi scheme, but the one in question is one of the units to stand out. The Monte Carlo was a true winner in GM’s success in its NASCAR program, being the preferred body style from 1972 until the model was discontinued in 2007.
