Jeep Is First US Brand with Over 1 Million Facebook Fans

In the latest company press release Jeep is making the very bold statement that it is the first domestic automotive company to reach a significant social networking milestone. Specifically, fans of the brand now number over 1 million on its Faceook page, while the next closest US domestic automotive brand fans total by more than 450,000.

"We are honored to be the first and only domestic automotive brand that can claim more than 1 million Facebook fans. This reinforces the fact that Jeep is clearly one of the most well-known and loved brands throughout the world, and comes as we continue to gain sales momentum and begin to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the brand,"
said Mike Manley, President and CEO, Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.

Last year, Jeep’s following on Facebook grew by triple digits, as the American company continues to foster a vibrant and innovative social community for its passionate fans and owners. Last July, they even tested the size limits of Facebook's photo album, "Photos by Others." The website’s 20,000 photo limit was exceeded, forcing Facebook to accommodate the increased number of images.

The online offensive also includes Twitter, You Tube and foursquare sites. In fact, Jeep was the first automotive brand to have an official profile on foursquare.com, the popular location-based social network that allows users to "check-in" at any location.

This explosion of interest is partly fueled by increased sales, as 24 percent more people bought Jeeps last year on the global market. Meanwhile, demand in the US grew 26 percent compared to 2009, with double-digit sales gains for each vehicle in the brand's lineup.
