The diesel version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is set to land in North America next year, with Chrysler officially announcing the move today. The North American Grand Cherokee diesel will be built at the company’s Jefferson (Detroit) North Assembly Plant.
The vehicle will probably come with the same technical side as the Euro-spec diesel Grand Cherokee, which means that we’ll receive a 3.0-liter V6 unit delivering 190 hp and 324.5 lb-ft (440 Nm) or 241 hp and 405.7 lb-ft (550 Nm), with the unit being mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox.
The first needs 10.2 seconds to cover the 0 to 62 mph sprint and offers a top speed of 119 mph (191 km/h), returning an efficiency of 28.4 mpg (8.3 l/100 km), while the latter needs 8.2 seconds to play the 0 to 62 mph game, comes with a top speed of 126 mph (202 km/h) and returns the same fuel efficiency.
Chrysler also announced that it will introduce a third shift, along with 1,100 new jobs at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant next year, which will come to support the current workforce of 2,890.
