If you thought president Obama was showing too much support for electric vehicles, just take a look at what’s going on in Japan. The country’s Prime Minster, mister Shinzo Abe, is showing support not only to green mobility, but also interest towards Nissan’s autonomous driving programs.
On Saturday, November 9th, Abe took a ride in Nissan’s Autonomous Drive Leaf EV. Since he’s the most important elected official in the country, the Nissan engineers are visibly nervous, as they are trailed by a convoy of bodyguards.

We don’t completely understand what they are saying, but it seems on the day of the test, the car’s scanners are being overwhelmed by the hundreds of people on the road who want to take photos of the event. But we think the Leaf is really impressive, as it apparently knows where to give way at an intersection based on Google maps data.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
