Jaguar XK Successor Coming in 2017

With Jaguar scheduled to discontinue the XK this Summer, the carmaker is not rushing to offer a replacement on the spot. Fret not GT fans, Jaguar will not give up on its Grand Touring tradition and it appears the Brits are set to offer us a successor sometime in 2017.
A recent report by Car Magazine indicates that this is the year when Jaguar will come up with the replacement and it seems that the wait is probably going to be worth it. Since the F-Type plays the role of a Jaguar sportscar, it is obvious that the XK will move upmarket.

The vehicle will reportedly ride on an expanded version of the F-Type’s aluminum platform. “Expanded” is the key word here, since turning the XK into a proper GT will require quite some extra space. The current XK wasn’t exactly spacious. There’s no use talking about the rear seats or the luggage compartment when the front area felt crumped.

Of course, this raises the obvious question - will the Jaguar XK replacement go head to head with the next-gen Bentley Continental GT? Well, yes... and no. While the Jag will evolve, it is still expected to be priced under the Continental GT, with the same being true for the comparison with the Aston Martin DB9.

Another novelty will be the introduction of V6 engines - by 2017, efficiency will be even more of a religion than it is now. And to literally top them all, Jaguar could follow the F-Type’s folding metal roof scheme, finally dropping the “traditional” cloth roof.
