An Indian designer named Mudit Gupta came up with a Jaguar D-Type inspired sportscar design study, which he named the XK-I.
The “I” in the car's name stands for ‘Image’, as the study wants to showcase design cues that stands out for the Jaguar image. Gupta said that some of the shapes were inspired by the old Jaguar D-type, but other models like the E and C-Type gave him some ideas too.
"The theme selected was 'light and iconic'," said Gupta about his XK-I concept. "To develop that I tried to do a light painting experiment with the help of a classic jaguar proportioned mule, which helped me understand the key elements that strike someone when they are told to interpret a jaguar in thin air."
Jaguar's D-Type sport racing car was produced between 1954 and 1957, and had a monocoque body, designed using aviation technology to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The car won the Le Mans 24-hour race three times in 1955, 1956 and 1957.
