Just like every other automaker, Jaguar tests its cars on the famous Nurburgring, the most demanding track out there if you want to emulate road conditions. But once you’ve made a name for yourself there, it also becomes a marketing opportunity, as everything from the Opel Corsa OPC to the Lexus LFA have associated themselves with the circuit in some way.
Now Jaguar has taken a page from the BMW ‘Ring Taxi ‘how to’ book and launched their own service. Unexpectedly, it’s not based on the XKR-S or the XFR.
Instead, they fitted the XJ Supersport with a roll cage and the optional Sport and Speed packs and let loos a mighty 5.0-liter engined beast with 510 PS (503bhp) onto the Nurburgring. One of the advantages is that the experience can be had by three people, because there’s room enough for a total of five racing buckets with full harnesses in there.
"We’ve been running a successful Nürburgring driving programme from our Nordschleife engineering test centre now for some time, as it’s the very best place to demonstrate the dynamic abilities of the current Jaguar XF, XJ and XK models," said Frank Klaas, Global Head of Communications for Jaguar Land Rover.
"Of these models, we found it's the XJ Supersport that most often surprises journalists with its speed simply because they perceive it to be a large luxury car.”
