It looks like Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is really on its way to defeat the German automakers when it comes to on board tech. After showing us the “transparent hood” prototype and new engines recently, the company now gives a sneak peek on its upcoming gizmos.
Cutting the chase right quick, you’ll be surprised to know that, along with a more useful InControl user interface, JLR will soon feature gesture controls in its cars. The Discovery Vision Concept has been chosen for showcasing the new tech, letting the driver activate climate control, wipers, panoramic roof, infotainment features and even the indicators by waving certain gestures with his hand.

Another interesting feature is represented by laser technology. No, it’s not used only for the headlights, but for scanning the road ahead and constantly adjust the vehicle settings for what’s coming.

The list of cool gadgets can’t be missing smart displays and JLR is working to offer a customizable 3D instrument cluster that will come with crystal clear graphics and eye tracking software.

Why would it need to track your eyes? Well, that is just a small part of the new self-learning program their cars will feature soon. Like Toyota’s FV2 concept, JLR cars will be able to learn their driver’s habits and predict what he wants to do. The system will monitor a lot of parameters, such as the route, time of the day, amount of passengers, weather, infotainment features and even your agenda to make relevant suggestions.

And if you’re not impressed with what’s listed so far, the future virtual windscreen here will blow your socks off. The windshield will use advanced projectors to display things as GPS routing, speed and gearing.

While on the track, the system will project the best racing line, braking points and even a ghost car to beat a rival or your own time as you’ll see bellow. It really looks like Gran Turismo with all assists ON, isn’t it?
