JabbaWockeeZ Prove Explorer’s V6 Is as Good as V8

In what we consider one of the strangest commercials in a long time, Ford has called on the JabbaWockeeZ dance crew to show that the V6 engine in the 2011 Ford Explorer is about as good as a V8 was in last year’s model. This isn’t some sort of scientific debate about fuel efficiency figures and power to weight ratios, as all they do is pull of some amazing dance moves aimed at Ford’s younger target audience.

What Ford was probably showing is that even though the car has two less dancers (pistons) the score rating (power figures) are almost the same. The Ford Explorer 3.5-liter V6 is offered as standard equipment across base, XLT and Limited models. It delivers an anticipated improvement in fuel economy of more than 20 percent versus the previous Explorer model.

Using Ti-VCT for optimized fuel economy and reduced part-throttle emissions, this engine delivers an estimated 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque in the 2011 Explorer. This V6 engine has been developed for the Ford Explorer application, with multiple actions that enhance mechanical efficiency, increase fuel economy, lower emissions costs and bolster durability. Despite its improved fuel economy is offers power to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

“Mechanical efficiency, performance and fuel economy have been improved through Ti-VCT, a low-tension drive belt featuring a one-way clutch for the alternator, a direct-acting mechanical bucket (DAMB) valvetrain with polished buckets to reduce friction, piston-cooling jets, improved bay-to-bay breathing through the cylinder block and composite cam covers that reduce engine weight,” Ford says.

We’ve done enough technical explaining! Now we’ll let the JabbaWockeeZ show you the rest through their dance.
