There’s some big movement in the premium crossover segment after Infiniti gave away all the details about the QX30 Concept, a preview of an upcoming production model that wants to break the GLA-X1-Q3 German crossover axis of evil.
What was teased as a ‘strong and stylish’ concept a few days ago turned out to be quite a good looking crossover concept, but now Japanese official swapped their description with ‘stylish and capable’. Since Infiniti got it right concerning the design approach, we are yet to find out whether the strong and capable attributes can be associated to the QX30 concept.
For that, we’ll need to have a look at what will the small urban SUV hide under the hood. Infiniti tells us that the production version QX30 will receive a palette of diesel and petrol engines but didn’t get into details, but Mercedes-Benz’s 2.0-liter turbo petrol and 2.1-liter diesel mills are just some of the units popping up in our minds.
Just like the Q30 premium compact hatch, Infiniti QX30 rests on a redesigned MFA platform from Mercedes-Benz. According to Infiniti, the five-door crossover is 4,430 mm long, 1,815 mm wide and 1,520 mm tall, similar to its German cousin, the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
There is an extra air of sturdiness added by the 21-inch wheels as well as the muscular body, but as experience teaches us, the production version will be a much more obedient adaptation of the concept, at least concerning design cues.
