Hyundai Veloster Rally Car Teased

Hyundai released teaser after teaser for the unconventional Veloster three-door coupe. Last month we finally got to see the car in its production-ready form at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Apparently, the car’s stint under the spotlights has not ended yet, as another teaser was released, showing a rally-going version.

We cant be sure about the details, however the car is captured mid-flight, showing its rear suspension and some interesting Red Bull Racing livery. The Veloster is rumored for track-duty, yet we can clearly see it comes with some serious under-body protection, so it could instead hit the off-road gravelly tracks.

Hyundai has not disclosed any information, but has promised to put all its cards on the table at a press conference during the upcoming Chicago Auto Show. If you are into rallying or just like the Veloster, we should have the full info on the model on February 9th.

The production version of the car aims to not only reinvent the way a sports hatchback looks with its Clubman-like three-door design, but also to launch a number of new technologies, including a brand new engine and transmission.

The styling is still looks a bit to soft at the front, but the Veloster rides on standard 17-inch wheels wrapped in 215/45-series all-season tires. As an optional extra, two sets of 18-inch alloy wheels are available, housed in 215/40-series performance tires.

We can’t tell what the rally car will use, but the standard Veloster is powered by Hyundai's all-new 1.6-liter Gamma inline-four which produces 138 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 123 pound-feet (166 Nm) of torque at 4,850 rpm.
