As Hyundai prepares to introduce the new Veloster at the upcoming 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January next year, the company teases us every once in a while to stir up interest on the future coupe. Of course, not much is known about the car, although there are a lot of rumors regarding the details of the future model.
The video teaser however confirms that the 2012 Veloster will feature a direct-injection system for increased power and enhanced fuel efficiency, with the engine to be mated to a dual-clutch transmission. Furthermore, the clip posted by Hyundai on YouTube claims the Veloster will achieve 40 mpg (5.8 l/100km) in combined cycle, which would be quite impressive for the entry-level sports coupe.
It will feature Blue Link which will most likely be some sort of a Bluetooth package that offers multiple connectivity options to the in-car systems.
Voices familiar with the matter are suggesting that the engine to be fitted on the 2+1 vehicle will be a naturally aspirated 1.6 liter direct-injected petrol unit that would generate approximately 140 horsepower, with a turbocharged version to be available as standard. Power output could thus be increased to around 200 horsepower, but exact details are expected in the first days of the new year.
autoevolution will be attending the 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
