Hyundai has filed an application to trademark a designation that will reportedly be used for its upcoming pickup models. The Korean carmaker is currently selling the Santa Cruz in the United States.
The trademark application in Australia was included in Class 12, referring to automobiles, electric cars, passenger cars for more than seven passengers, but also trucks, according to the file. The model should be named the Ioniq T10.

Hyundai has not confirmed the arrival of a new pickup truck. But the designation that the carmaker patented is a clear indication that we will be dealing with an electric model, included in the Ioniq EV lineup. Furthermore, the T10 should be positioned above the Ioniq 7, which will be a large SUV, while the "T" in the name should be a reference to "truck."

Hyundai is planning to focus the sales of its upcoming product around the US market. To make it survive in the land of pickup trucks, the T10 should be competitive enough to fight America's most popular models in the segment, the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado, which have been the best-selling models in the US for years.

The carmaker also filed an application for the Ioniq T7 name. If the numbers have any relevance, this one should be a smaller pickup, the size of the Santa Cruz, and most likely, it will be based on the Ioniq 7 SUV. This one should slot lower in the lineup and should come as a rival for the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Tacoma.

Hyundai’s decision to build pickup trucks does make sense at the moment. Its sister company, Kia, has already confirmed the launch of its own diesel-powered dual-cab model in 2025. Reportedly named the Tasman, the model will slot in the small pickup segment, where the T7 should arrive. The Tasman should also be available as an EV in "emerging markets," Kia claims.

There is no information about the moment of the unveiling, but the Ioniq T10 should arrive sometime in 2025 or 2026, according to a report by drive.com.au.

The Ioniq T7 should replace the Hyundai Santa Cruz

Hyundai is currently selling the Santa Cruz in the US. The pickup starts at $26,650 for the SE base trim, which comes with a 2.5-liter GDI-MPI four-cylinder diesel engine, good for 191 horsepower, available in both front- and all-wheel drive.

At the opposite end of the lineup, the Limited version starts at $41,070. The range-topping version is powered by the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 281 horsepower, linked to the HTRAC all-wheel drive system. It comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen of the same size. Heated and ventilated front seats and a Bose premium sound system are also on board.

The top-of-the-line Santa Cruz sports a dark chrome radiator grille and body-color door handles and rides on 20-inch alloy wheels.

The Ioniq T7 should come as a replacement for the Santa Cruz, so it should offer more for around the same price if it plans to be competitive in the segment.

We have yet to see if the Ioniq T7 and T10 will follow the design cues of the Santa Cruz and Tucson or will sport the monolith-like shape of the new Santa Fe. One thing is for sure, though. If they are Ioniqs, they will be battery electric vehicles.
