Hyundai Launches HD Truck in Europe

Hyundai Motor Company is securing its position on the commercial vehicle market in Western Europe, with the launch of its new HD series truck in Spain and Portugal. The range comprise of the HD55 and HD65 models.

The ceremony for the launch of the new truck was held in Madrid, Spain. Around 120 people attended, including Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman H.Y. Choi, the South Korean Ambassador to Spain, members of the press and potential customers.

“We are very happy to introduce our HD series to the European commercial vehicle market, which has both strong demand and growth potential,” said Vice Chairman Choi. “We aim to establish a differentiated and comprehensive service network, as well as introduce more models, to maximize customers’ satisfaction and expand our market share in the future.”

Known as the ‘Mighty’ in Korea, the truck is the best seller there, in the light class, ever since 1997 when it was introduced. The model is currently being sold in over 100 countries and is generally well received. For the European market, the company had to meet new safety and environmental standards, which meant delays in production.

The mid-sized workhorse comes with Hyundai’s own F-engine, that now also meets Euro 5 standards. The powerplant generated 160 hp (118 kW) and a maximum of 588 Nm (433 lb-ft) of torque. Power from the engine is delivered to the back wheels. The truck comes in two body forms, standard cab and crew cab. Hyundai hopes the launch in Madrid will help the brand spread to other countries in the region.
