Hyundai is making an important step on the US market, with the carmaker using the 2013 SEMA show to introduce its crate engine program. We’re talking about two powerplants taken from the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, a straight four and a V6.
It all starts with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit, which is being offered in two versions. For $4,500, you can have the unit without a turbocharger, being prepared to receive one of your choice.

This may seem like the cheaper alternative, but if you’re going to opf for a monster turbo setup, there’s no point in buying the factory turbo and replacing it.

However, if you want to stick with the OEM turbocharger, be prepared to spend $6,000 on the unit, which delivers 274 HP @ 6,000 RPM and 275 lb-ft of torque at 2,00 RPM. The program is completed with Hyundai’s 3.8-liter V6.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been looking to put up a real fight with the Ford Mustang for quite a while now and this is a good step down the path leading to the battle between the two carmakers, despite moving the focus from the aforementioned models.

However, if Hyundai wants to give us the real deal, they should set the 5.0-liter V8 of the Genesis R-Spec free. After all, its introduction on the Coupe was rumored multiple times, but never happened so far.
