The Hyundai Kona is a force to be reckoned with in the North American subcompact crossover segment. With unparalleled drivetrain options between gasoline, plug-in electric hybrids, and full-on battery EVs, the Kona is setting the scene for how all vehicles in its market segment should be offered. With this same spirit of innovation in mind, Hyundai came out in full force at the 2023 SEMA Show to share with us the Kona Jayde Concept. Safe to say, it takes the second-generation Kona form factor we all know and love and makes it just that little bit more special.
With its target audience marketed directly at young urbanites who value a great adventure vehicle as much as they do superior build quality and forward-thinking styling, the Kona Jayde Concept is a vehicle that excites from the moment one lays eyes on its bold light green paint job, its wicked one-piece HRE 520M wheels, and prominent Thule Pulse Alpine cargo box over its roof. Indeed, it's urban-centralized, excitement-seeking young professionals that Hyundai hopes to woo with this latest concept vehicle.

With its Thule Epos bike rack paired with a Hyundai Genuine Accessory hitch, this is a car for driving to your favorite woodland bike trail miles outside of a city center as it is the thing you drive to the office in every day. With a set of Michelin Power Gravel tires, you could probably take the Kona Jayde out on that same woodland trail, assuming said trail was wide enough. Though it's still just a Konda at the end of the day, one can't help but think such a striking combination of paint, wheels, and tires is enough to make people's heads turn wherever the Kona Jayde may roam. It's to the point where America's premiere custom vehicle show almost feels incomplete without it.

If only onlookers knew that the Kona Jayde Concept's exterior was only a precursor to what's on offer with its interior. With wicked-looking Recaro Sportster bucket seats trimmed in a quasi-vintage but infinitely tasteful flannel pattern, the Kona Jayde is likely just as wonderful to sit inside as it is to gaze at from a side street, as onlookers ponder what could possibly be hiding under that gigantic roof rack. Other elements of the interior, like the doorstep plates, carpeted floor mats, and the reversible cargo tray, are similarly accented to complete the look of this interior. With a slew of accessories like a 200 DC-to-AC charging adapter available, there's enough tech at hand here to satisfy any Silicone Valley hot shot.

It's all thanks to Hyundai's collaboration with their official parts and accessories provider, Mobis, that the Kona Jayde Concept looks the way it does. Safe to say, if any production-level Konas look this appealing, an already high public interest in the design could be brought to a whole new level. Expect this awesome concept to make its in-person debut at SEMA on Halloween, October 31st. But for now, these promotional pictures are enough to excite all by themselves. The matching e-bike from Vintage Electric Bikes is just the gravy on top.
