Hyundai Equus Image Copies One of the Lexus LS

What does 'Imitation is the greatest form of flattery' mean? It means that when you do something well enough to set a trend and inspire others to do something you did, you feel flattered, it should make you feel good because people like it enough to want it too. However, we don’t really agree with this saying, as it would be an ever higher compliment to emulate something than to imitate it.

A recent Motor Trend article that names the Lexus LF-A one of the top 9 halo cars, also awards the same attribute to the Hyundai Equus. However, according to Lexus Enthusiast, the image used in the article is remarkably similar to one that Lexus created to highlight its LS 600hL back in 2007. We doubt that two graphic designers had the same idea independently of each other, as even the camera angles and the lighting looks almost the same.

The Equus is definitely a step in the right direction for the Korean company, but they didn’t have to copy an idea from Lexus to get their model noticed.

When it was launched in 2007, the LS 600hL was the world’s first luxury hybrid V8 vehicle, proving Lexus’ commitment to green transportation. The hybrid-drive system in the car combined an all-new 5.0-liter V8 petrol engine, with large, high-output electric motors and a newly designed large-capacity battery pack. This provided the LS model with a good balance of environmental efficiency and a peak output of more than 430 horsepower.

So, should Lexus feel flattered by what Hyundai has done? Tell us what you think!

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
