Hugh Grant's Ferrari California Breaks Down

Not a movie scene as some might think, but true story: actor Hugh Grant had a breakdown in his Ferrari California late last week, with the $220,000 supercar leaving him stranded in the roadside. The actor purchased the Ferrari in question last August as a 50th birthday present.

According to the Daily Mail, the incident happened on the A256 near Sandwich in Kent (UK), as Grant was on his way to play golf at the nearby Royal St George's course.

He failed to rev the engine back to life, leaving the fast lane blocked and forcing passing cars to swerve out of the way. Shortly, he managed to put the car in reverse gear and backed over to the grass verge. After a few more attempts of getting the car to go, he finally got out and complied with the situation.

“We had a call about a broken-down car on the verge,”
the Kent Police stated.

As he would have had to wait several hours before a pick-up truck would arrive, Grant finally accept a lift from pub landlord Paul McMullan, who took the actor to the golf club in a 15-year-old Volkswagen Kombi van.

“'I don't know what he thought about arriving at such a prestigious club in my shabby old van but at least it got him there,” McMullan was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. “He had to sit in the front seat with his feet astride an old diesel fuel can. He said, "I must thank you for the lift. I will pop into the pub for a pint to thank you."
