How to Turn Your BMW 7 Series's Trunk into a Safe

Some of you might’ve heard that there is a way to turn your BMW into some sort of vault, but you just don’t know how to do it yet. Here we are, once again, to the rescue.

So, your BMW has the possibility of locking the trunk mechanically, keeping your important stuff safe and away from curious eyes. In order to do so, here’s how you set it up on a 7 Series (for other vehicles, the steps are the same, only that the lock button might be located somewhere else, like the glove compartment).

First, open your center armrest. Inside you’ll find a button with an open trunk picture on it. Moving it to the left will lock your trunk, with the possibility of opening it from the key or the button inside the cabin. ‘But you can still access the button inside the armrest’ you might say.

In order to stop that from happening, you need to take out the mechanical key out of your key fob, by pressing a small button on the top of it (see video for more info). Using that key, you’ll now lock the armrest using the hub in front of it (check video). Now, the armrest is locked and so is the trunk. You can now use the car without the mechanical key (for valet parking, for example), just make sure you don’t lose it.

To unlock the trunk, you just have to do the same steps in reverse order. For more info, check the video below. Enjoy!
