We’re going a bit oldschool with this tutorial, but there should be some passionate guys out there that own a 1987 Toyota 4Runner and need some advice on how to replace the throttle cable.
The job is pretty simple and all you need to have is a replacement cable, a 10mm and 12mm wrench. Just follow the following steps and see the video at the end for further information:
Let the engine cool so you won’t touch any hot parts during the procedure
Open the hood
Rotate the the throttle cam clockwise and remove the throttle cable. Just slide that notch from its location
Loosen the bolt holding the cable next to the throttle body
There is also another clip holding it on the firewall
Go inside the cabin and disconnect the cable from the accelerator pedal
There is another mounting point on the firewall so unscrew it and take the cable out
Place the new cable in by following the steps in reverse order.
