We’re going a bit oldschool with this tutorial, but there should be some passionate guys out there that own a 1987 Toyota 4Runner and need some advice on how to replace the throttle cable.
The job is pretty simple and all you need to have is a replacement cable, a 10mm and 12mm wrench. Just follow the following steps and see the video at the end for further information:
  • Let the engine cool so you won’t touch any hot parts during the procedure
  • Open the hood
  • Rotate the the throttle cam clockwise and remove the throttle cable. Just slide that notch from its location
  • Loosen the bolt holding the cable next to the throttle body
  • There is also another clip holding it on the firewall
  • Go inside the cabin and disconnect the cable from the accelerator pedal
  • There is another mounting point on the firewall so unscrew it and take the cable out
  • Place the new cable in by following the steps in reverse order.
