Usually, you don't need to perform maintenance jobs on your Toyota VVTi engine's flywheel, but if you plan to tune the four-pot and put a lightweight flywheel, here's a short tutorial on how to perform the operation.
The flywheel connects directly to the engine's crankshaft having two main functions – to gain momentum for the engine to run smoothly and to offer the clutch a surface to grip on. The whole piece is connected to the crankshaft with 8 special bolts.
Reaching the bolts is tricky, as you will have to remove the gearbox and also remove the clutch assembly. Then, you'll need to find a thick metal sheet, drill two holes in it and use it to block the flywheel from rotating by bolting it to the engine block.
This is a DIY guide and, as such, you must be aware the procedures described here involve some risks. autoevolution cannot be held responsible for any possible damage that might result while following this guide.
