If the oil pressure warning light pops on your Toyota’s dashboard, first thing to check is for the oil level and if there are any leaks. If not, then the oil pump might have a problem.
The oil pump on a Toyota VVTi engine is located in the same place as the timing chain. So in order to take it out, you must first remove the timing chain cover and timing chain itself.
After that, locate the oil pump on the lower part of the timing chain’s chamber and use a 10 mm socket ratchet to remove its five bolts. Then just pull the whole piece out.
You can further disassemble the pump by removing the screws on its back to reach the internal mechanism.
