When BMW announced the CSL version of the E46 M3, the changes they claimed the lighter car had were obvious and led even Jeremy Clarkson went out and bought one, it was that good.
However, what BMW didn't say but the BMW community quickly realized, was that the SMG gearbox software was improved, shifting the gears even faster. That infuriated some BMW aficionados and gave others an idea.
What if, you could flash the new software on your stock M3 and achieve better gear changing times? Well, we're here to tell you that it's possible. It's not easy, and it's surely dangerous (if anything goes bad your car will be bricked) but it's doable.

What you're going to need: the BMW Standard Tools suite of software (2.5.0 or later, with WinKFP 5.1.6 or later), an E46 with the SMG2 transmission, access to E46 data files (Ista/P V37 or later), a power supply that can provide a stable current of 10A with 13-14 Volts and 15-30 minutes.

From here on you'll need to follow the exact guides described in the .pdf attached to this article and be careful. As a quick reminder: you are the solely responsible person for any damage done to your car. If you think this is too risky, don't do it. It's as simple as that! Good luck!
