As far as differences between the European BMWs and American ones go, most of us already know about the common ones. Amongst them you'll find the US front reflectors, the daytime running side signals and many more.
However, one thing is often overlooked. The E8x 1 Series models sent over the Atlantic came without a button for activating the rear fog lights. No, we didn't make a mistake by saying that just the button is missing. Hear us out.

It turns out that the American Bimmers are already equipped with the light bulbs for foggy weather but you just can't turn them on because the switch doesn't have the button for it. Actually, even the dash has the warning light for fog lights on it but you'll never see it. Unless…

Unless you follow this DIY to activate them. The process is easy enough. It doesn't require any coding or anything like that, it's just a simple process of replacing the headlight switch.

Basically, all you need to be able to use the rear fog lights is a new, European model switch, a T20 torx and some spare time. Good luck!
