How the S-Class' Active Lane Keeping Assist Works

The Active Lane Keeping Assists has appeared for some time in the Mercedes-Benz model range, but there are probably quite a lot of people who don't really know, or care, how the system works.

In essence, the technology is designed to keep people from swerving their Mercedes-Benz into adjacent lanes without checking their blind spots and most likely creating a highway pile-up with this unsafe maneuver.

With an array of short and long range radars and a pair of stereo cameras, the system monitors all the traffic around the car and can also read the lane markers. Using individual braking intervention from the ESP it can pretty much make the car avoid cutting off another car coming from behind an/or keep the vehicle between the lane markers.
