Although it's sprinkled with bits of Britain's snobbish gibber talk and how the new S-Class will try to regain its “world's best car” crown from “luxury contenders like the new Range Rover and the Rolls Royce Phantom”, the Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTec review from CAR Magazine is actually pretty enjoyable.
Since Britain is pretty much the land of the diesel, with around 49% of newly registered cars in the UK sporting an oil-burner under the hood and over 90% of right hand drive S-Classes being diesels, CAR decided to test the fuel sipper of the current W222 S-Class range.
With a medium fuel consumption of just 5.5 liters per 100 km/h (51.4 Imperial mpg), the new S350 BlueTech can even dwarf a C350 CDI as far as fuel economy goes.
Its 258 hp (254 bhp) three-liter V6 also outputs a massive 620 Nm (457 lb ft) of torque, enough to propel the large uber sedan from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just seconds, up to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
Apart from the aforementioned slippage caused by some talk about the Range Rover, roll-Royce Phantom and a bit about the Jaguar XJ and its “better driver-amusement”, the CAR reviewers pretty much gave the S350 BlueTec full accolades, starting from the car;s performance and comfort and ending with the safety and gizmos that can be had on the new Mercedes-Benz flagship sedan.
