These novel ideas come from across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. Still, any of them could easily be implemented by Volkswagen – though only if their corner-office head honchos want to.
Few people know that, but the Volkswagen Passat nameplate – depicting a well-known family of large family cars from Europe's D segment – is older than the legendary VW Golf moniker. The latter entered production in 1974, while the former kicked off its story the year prior – some five decades.

Now in its ninth generation, the 50-year-old Volkswagen Passat (known worldwide also as the Santana, Dasher, Carat, Quantum, Magotan, or Corsar) currently represents a major departure from its predecessors for various reasons. First, the sedan model is no more, succeeded instead by the all-electric ID.7 liftback sedan.

Secondly, it is only marketed as a station wagon, and it's not 'Made in Germany' anymore as production moved to Slovakia because now it's related to the upcoming Skoda Superb – both sharing the latest MQB Evo underpinnings. Thirdly, it's substantially larger and finally looks quite different from its predecessor – albeit mainly on the inside, not the outside. However, that doesn't mean it's not going to be a smashing success – or as popular as it can be in an automotive world bullied by crossovers, SUVs, and trucks.

The 2024 Volkswagen Passat, solely in Variant form, will reach dealerships early next year with gasoline, mild hybrid, and diesel engines, as well as a couple of new plug-in hybrid offerings with EV ranges of up to 100 km (62 miles) under the hood. Alas, some people might feel that is not enough to keep the spirit of the series alive and well. Well, no worries, at least across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, something can easily be done to rectify these transgressions.

While these ideas come from the parallel universes of vehicular CGI, any of them could easily be put into practice by Volkswagen if we are to believe these pixel masters. First, Nikita Chuiko, the virtual artist known as kelsonik, has worked for Kolesa to imagine the crossover-style Alltrack version that may or may not come at a later date to try and persuade some buyers that SUVs are overrated.

The good folks not only showed their unofficial VW Passat Alltrack renderings but also compared the hypothetical project set against the previous-generation Alltrack. Also, the author tucked behind the X-Tomi Design account on social media had a couple of thoughts based on the ninth-gen Passat's theme – and he quickly set to CGI work to provide us with potential Passat sedan and Passat R versions. So, which one is your favorite, and why?
