In North America, the full-size pickup truck wars are about to heat up with an upcoming expansion of the EV format. But how about the smaller entries in the field?
In the beginning, there was only the behemoth GMC Hummer EV, the new Rivian R1T kid on the EV block, plus the mighty Ford F-150 Lightning. Then, there was considerable interest from the audience and many production setbacks, so automakers raised prices to ensure they still racked in (massive) profits.

But Tesla did something unheard of – they lowered the prices of their passenger car EVs and crossovers – sparking public outrage from their legacy OEM rivals, greedy investors, and specialists. The public might want to profit as much as possible from the more affordable MSRP climate, as it probably won't last much.

Also, soon, the full-size pickup truck sector is going to welcome even more EVs – 2024 (or should we say 2025?) Chevrolet Silverado EV, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV sibling, as well as the Ram 1500 REV, plus the unorthodox Tesla Cybertruck. Many wonder if the latter will change the game forever – not just with its edgy looks, but also perhaps with an aggressive pricing strategy?

Anyway, the main reason why carmakers have such steep prices for their big EV pickup trucks is simple – the massive bodies need humongous battery packs to give them a semblance of normal range, especially when hauling big payloads or towing hefty stuff. However, they can't remain the only ones – smaller EV pickup trucks are bound to appear sooner or later.

Rivian is already well on its way toward delivering such a promise of something more compact and a lot more affordable as they are developing the second (R2) EV architecture to underpin yet another pickup truck and off-road-focused SUV, tentatively called R2T and R2S. But, of course, they will not be the only ones, according to the rumor mill.

For example, the Halo oto channel on YouTube always tries to provide fresh automotive info that is swiftly corroborated with their virtual designs; now, there are some CGI ideas about a new Nissan EV coming past the middle of the decade. According to the whispers they heard from the mill, the Japanese automaker is satisfied with their first North American-focused Nissan Frontier mid-size pickup truck generation, and the truck's next iteration might be delayed until 2029.

No worries, to fill the gap in the meantime, there will be a different product directed at the novel EV sector – a mid-size pickup truck with zero emissions. And, according to the channel's host, it will be a flagship-killer type of vehicle, a $40k pickup truck. Naturally, the resident pixel master also has some ideas about what could make the EV Nissan truck a hit on the market – and shared his thoughts in yellow and gray. So, what do you think? Should Nissan build an affordable mid-size EV pickup truck or not?
