A friend with an FD RX-7 recently bought a Corvette ZR-1. He has already upgraded the exhaust system. But he wrote to me earlier today, looking for some AMG parts.
As we discussed his new daily Mercedes-Benz, I remembered a new Hot Wheels Red Line Club was coming. And it's a Mercedes-AMG model, as you can tell. These days, collectors are crazy about Audi and Mercedes-Benz models. And Mattel knows that quite well. I have a soft spot for the 1997 CLK-GTR and the '16 Mercedes-AMG GT3.

But most people I know would be willing to fight over the new '89 560 SEC AMG Super Treasure Hunt. So, it makes sense that the diecast manufacturer will churn out new castings soon. And the Red Line Club is the perfect place to start from. Launching an exclusive model for the most devoted members will trigger many people.

If you can't get your hands on the RLC model from Mattel Creations and don't want to spend twice or thrice as much on it on eBay, turning to another series is the only option. But I won't dwell on that topic today. Enthusiasts might have grown tired of the RLC '55 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, so the new G 63 4x4² is a much-welcomed addition.

I wrote a story on tiny G Class models in January 2023. I was surprised that Mattel had only ever developed two G Class castings: the Blings G500 and the 1991 G-Class. I wondered how much longer we'd have to wait until we got another one. The answer is simply: more than anyone would have wanted to.

Better later than never, right? The G 63 4x4² always makes for an impressive appearance, especially if it has a wild paint job to show off (think Green). Mattel opted for a Spectraflame Blue finish for the Red Line Club exclusive model, which is a pretty good starting point. The main attraction seems to be that this collectible features separate diecast pieces for the mirrors and roof rack.

It also has a fifth Real Riders wheel on the back. I wonder if anyone will try to remove it and use it on a different casting. I have mixed feelings about the Baja Off-road wheels, but I guess it was also a tough choice for the designer team. The interior looks fantastic, featuring a mix of black and brown.

Some people might dislike that Mattel didn't draw any moving parts into the design: an opening hood or doors would have been nice. The G 63 4x4² goes live on April 9, 2024, at 9 AM PT, for $25. It starts at $46 on eBay, up to $83 even before the official release. I wonder if this will be another "Gone in 60 Seconds" type of promotion.
