You might not know much about Honda of South Carolina, but we're here to clear the air and talk about the Pioneer 1000, their latest model to enter production.
HSC began production of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in July 1998 with a workforce of approximately 200 associates. But they didn't do that from scratch.
They pumped $30 million into their 200,000 square foot ATV manufacturing plant, which was updated to a 655,480 square foot facility, representing $344 million in investment.
But enough with white collar talk, let's see what the Pioneer 1000 is all about.
The vehicle is based around a purpose-built 999 cc (1.0-liter) twin-cylinder Unicam® engine and a fully automatic six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Honda says it's a "rugged, highly versatile, multipurpose side-by-side" vehicle, and by just looking at the car, we tend to say they're right.
Also, officials seem to think there's a market for these things and one that's taking an upward trend.
"The side-by-side market is growing rapidly and Honda is focused on adding new jobs and investment to meet the increasing customer demand," said Brian Newman, president of Honda of South Carolina. "The new Pioneer 1000 will be the flagship offering in the largest and fastest-growing segment of the industry and the 1,000 associates at Honda South Carolina are ready and excited to meet the challenge."
However, it's not all sugar and honey as far as the Pioneer is concerned. Last year the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall notice aimed at around 15,400 2014 model year Honda Pioneer 700 SxS.
The move was made after Honda received no less than ten reports that mentioned a fire being ignited underneath the specified vehicles.
We hope they're past this episode now and continue to deliver fun South Carolina built ATVs to clients.
