There was a time when alpha-numeric names were good options for the models of Spanish carmaker Hispano Suiza, just like they still are for so many car brands today. But then, they came up with names that sounded like the Spanish Flamenco. Now, the brand reveals the name of its upcoming model.
It is the Sagrera, a hypercar that comes as an evolution of the Hispano Suiza Carmen to pay homage to one of the company’s most important factories of the 20th century.

The Sagrera will arrive in 2024, right on time for the 120th anniversary of the brand which rolls out fully electric hypercars. The name is related, just like the Carmen or Boulogne, to the history of the company founded back in 1904. Riding the wave of commercial success, Hispano Suiza moved to La Sagrera district of Barcelona in 1911. It was an area famous for its industrial activity.

That is where the first large factory of the company was founded, covering 50,000 square meters (538,196 square feet). The demand kept growing, so the factory had to grow with it. Two extensions later, the production center employed 1,800 people. Therefore, selecting the Sagrera name for the upcoming hypercar does make sense.

The Sagrera will be equipped with the new battery pack, sporting a capacity of 103 kWh. The unit has already proven its worth in the Carmen Boulogne. The CEO of the company, Sergio Martinez Campos, explains that the Sagrera is the evolution of the Carmen and Carmen Boulogne. It is also a preview of the design of the brand’s future model. The model is a response to the customers’ demands, Campos explains.

Premiering at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Carmen was the first car from the brand since the 1930s. The model is named after Carmen Mateu, the granddaughter of one of the two co-founders Hispano-Suiza Damian Mateu. Now, the company is owned by the fourth generation of the Suque Mateu family.

The Carmen, rolled out in a limited production series of only 19 examples, is powered by two permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors, each mounted on a wheel and each generating 503 horsepower for a total of 1,015 horsepower (1,019 PS). The hypercar sports an 80 kWh lithium-polymer battery.

The Carmen Boulogne arrived in September 2021 as a special limited edition of the model. The first to arrive in the United States was delivered in 2022.

Two more electric motors showed up, as the four generate a combined output of 1,099 horsepower (1,115 PS) for a run from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph (290 kph). Hispano Suiza built five such examples, each starting at $2 million.
