The family of the legendary reggae singer who brought the music genre to the world recently celebrated what would have been Bob Marley’s 70th anniversary. For this occasion, the No Woman, No Cry artist’s iconic 1977 Series III Land Rover - which fell into a state of disrepair following his death - has been completely restored. The Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica recently released the video that tells the story of the car and of its revival.
For more than 30 years, the classic off-roader remained neglected in the car park at 56 Hope Road where Bob Marley’s uptown Kingston home is located. The Victorian house was turned into a museum dedicated to his life and music and recently received the restored Land Rover as part of the memorabilia fans around the planet can now visit.
Even though the 4x4 iconic British model is renowned for its high endurance, with a lot of the classic models still being used around the world, Bob Marley’s Land Rover fell into a state of disrepair and needed a lot of work. It took two years for Sandals Resorts International and its Jamaican affiliate car company ATL Automotive, ITC - the Regional Distributors for Land Rover - to make it shine again.
The vehicle has been completely restored from the clutch to its chassis and returned to its home on February 12, just in time for the legendary singer’s 70th birthday celebration. The Marley family, who also participated on the restoring of the famous off-roader, released a 10-minute making-of video in which family members and the ones that worked on the Landie talk about the car and its owner.
