Designing cars - now that is probably one of the greatest jobs a petrolhead can think off. Just imagine it, thousands if not millions of people will end up spending countless hours in something you imagined from the ground up. But what about being in charge of the very best of hero cars movie stars drive in blockbusters? I wonder how that must feel.
It must be something that takes a lot of talent, time and patience, but that clearly pays off. Why are we talking about design all of the sudden, you ask? Well, Patrick Tatopoulos is a French production designer whose work has appeared in numerous motion pictures, including things like Independence Day, Godzilla, I Am Legend, 10,000 BC and many others. Oh, he also is the person in charge of the new Batmobile.

In an interview the nice folks over at Comic Book Movie did with the gifted designer, Tatopoulos details his approach towards the caped crusader’s hero car, and how it’s different to Christopher Nolan’s Tumbler.

"Batmobiles are often designed very low to the ground, something classical. That didn't feel fully comfortable for us. I thought the Tumbler was a revolutionary design, with the suspension very high up. I wanted to combine the two vehicles. I wanted something of a motorcycle, too: big wheels, suspension, exhausts,” he told the source.

The French designer claims the Cape Crusader starring in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is “rougher, tougher and grungier.” This made him design everything in the same tone, the weapons, the suit and, of course, the car. “There are machine guns mounted on the front. When you first see the Batmobile, it is being fixed. It is not - boom! - coming out of the garage brand new.”

We don’t know about you people, but these details sure made us even more excited about the movie, which is also bad since there are still a couple of months of waiting to do.
